Dit help om op te staan vir jou regte

In Suid-Afrika vereis die wet dat tuisleerders geregistreer moet wees by die staat. Aangesien die provisiale owerhede in Suid-Afrika of nie die administratiewe kapasiteit het nie, of allerhande onwettige voorwaardes stel vir registrasie, word dit beraam dat 99% van die tuisleerders in Suid-Afrika nie by die staat geregistreer is nie.

In die state Illinois en Missouri van die VSA, word dit selfs nie eens vereis dat tuisleerders moet registreer nie. Onlangs was daar egter 'n poging deur die owerheid van Illinois om wetgewing in te stel waarvolgens tuisleerders wel geregistreer moet word. Deur te mobilieer het tuisskolers egter hierdie poging gefnuik.

Onder die voorwendsel dat die owerheid graag die tuisleerders wil help, is wetgewing beplan on tuisskolers te verplig om te registreer.

Ouers, tuisleerders en ondersteuners het egter gemobiliseer en saamgekom in die gebou waar 'n kommitee van die senaat van die staat die voorgestelde wetgewing sou aanhoor. Terwyl die kommitee die voorstel aangehoor het, het die skare liedere gesing soos "God Bless America" en "Amazing Grace". Die senator wat die wetgewing voorgele het, het toe besluit om die kommitee mee te deel dat hy nie die voorgestelde wetgeweing verder sal voer nie, as gevolg van die onvoorsiene gevolge daarvan.

Hierdie voorbeeld illustreer dat dit kan help indien tuisskolers opstaan teen onregmatige beperkings op hulle vryheid om tuisonderwys te gee.
