What are the pros of home education?

Most homeschooling parents want to develop the full personality of their children that is intellectually, emotionally, social, physical and ethical.

Intellectually parents can choose the curriculum which suits the child's learning style and interest. In the homeschool environment the pace of learning can also be adjusted.

Emotionally a child feels secure within the relationship with their parent and as the parent knows the child they will be able to guide their emotional development and IQ.

Children need to be parented into socialy acceptable behaviour. Good manners and ethics are being taught at home. Parents include their children in their day to day living which means they come into contact with people of all walks of life. They can also help their children in making good choises with regards to friendships.

Parents can choose the sport and physical activities which suit the child and is needed for their development especially at specific developmental stages. The homeschool environment is also safe and a child can develop without the threat of bullying.

Parents can choose the curriculum which aligns with their values, informally transferring ethical values while learning.

What are the cons of homeschooling ?

Parents take on the full responsibility for the education of their children which can be overwhelming. Thus no teacher at school to blame if there are shortcomings. In practice parents are still responsible for their children's education even if they are in a public school and even schoolchildren have shortcomings.

Parents are subject to criticism from friends and families on their choice to home educate their children. Homeschooling is not the norm and therefor homeschoolers are many times under a microscope. Homeschoolers are often not allowed to be introverted, make mistakes or choose not to go to university according to critics.

Parents can find teaching multiple ages at once a challenge as well as teaching difficult subjects. This is a learning opportunity for parent and child but there are support and options like using a curriculum which is designed to teach multiple ages as well as using a tutoring services to assist.

The homeschool parent are with their children 24/7. Moms who need some alone time need to schedule to meet their needs. As the family are living and learning at their house it might not always be tidy and moms need to adapt their standards accordingly.

Parents are also responsibile for creating opportunities for their children to engage socially. Homelearners don't sit and chat with their friends on the playground like at school. They need to be taken to meet up, socials, sport activities etc.

As one parent stays at home to teach the children most homeschool families live on a single income. There are however many homeschool moms who start a home business where they also involve their children.
