Today is Black Tuesday in South Africa, during which several organisations protest against the planned Protection of State Information Bill that will be discussed in parliament today.
Secrecy and non-transparency is also a problem in education in South Africa. Earlier this year, Transparency International issued a report on the transparency, accountability and integrity of primary education in South Africa. One of the findings of this report is that one of the highest risks is related to the embezzlement of funds at the provincial level, e.g. when procuring textbooks, remunerating staff and constructing school buildings.
