Afrika tale (uitgesluit Afrikaans) kan verpligtend word vir universiteit studente

Die VF+ het onlangs gerapporteer dat die Departement van Kommunikasiewetenskappe aan UNISA van plan is om ‘n voorstel by die universiteit se Senaat in te dien om alle kursusse van hierdie departement vanaf 2012 slegs in Engels aan te bied. By Universiteit Stellenbosch heers daar al jare 'n stryd oor die uitfasering van Afrikaans by daardie universiteit.

Vandag word gerapporteer dat die Minister vir hoer onderwys beplan om die aanleer van 'n Afrika taal as 'n voorwaarde te stel om 'n graad te verwerf. Lees meer.

In die berigte is dit duidelik dat Afrikaans nie as 'n Afrika taal beskou word nie, ondanks die feit dat Afrikaans 'n taal is wat in Afrika ontstaan het. Dit lyk dus of 'n Afrika taal beskou word as enige van die 11 amptelike tale, met Engels en Afrikaans uitgesluit.

Dit lyk dus of die strategie van die huidige politieke bedeling is om Afrikaans uit te faseer as onderrigmedium op alle universiteite, en Afrika tale (uitgesluit Afrikaans) met dwang in te faseer as taal wat alle studente moet leer.

Gegee dat staatsgesubsidieerde instellings Afrikaans gaan uitfaseer, is die toekoms vir tersiere onderwys in Afrikaans in die privaat sektor. Daarom is dit belangrik dat inisiatiewe die ondersteuning moet geniet van die Afrikaans sprekende gemeenskap.
