Tuisskolers.org has reported on the situation of homeschooling parents in Sweden in general, and the Johannsen family specifically at various occasions. The Association for Homeschooling has written a letter to the Swedish embassy in Pretoria about this.
The Association has now created a petition for the re-unification of the Johannson family and parental rights in Sweden. Please go to www.tuisskolers.org and click on the banner to sign the petition. After signing the petition, a message will be sent to the Swedish embassy in Pretoria. Read more.
This petition empowers South African parents to express their wish that they would like Swedish parents to have the same parental freedoms as South African parents, and Swedish children may also enjoy the same proven benefits of home education as have tens of thousands of South African homeschooled children for almost two decades.
The Association would like it to be a positive petition. When you sign the petition, you can also add comments. Use this facility to describe the benefits that homeschooling has provided for your children, and express the wish that you would like Swedish children to experience the same benefits.
It is important that homeschooling parents in South Africa support this, not only to help parents and children in Sweden, but also because the international recognition of homeschooling will also safeguard homeschooling in South Africa. We also know from experience that letter writing campaigns do make a difference. Read on the website of the Homeschooling Legal Defence Association, how a letter writing campaign by homeschoolers in the USA has contributed towards the recognition of homeschooling in South Africa. Now that homeschooling is recognised here, South African parents should do the same for homeschoolers in other countries.
Apart from signing the petition, you could also phone me. Johanna Lind at the Swedish embassy at (012) 426 6400. Me. Lind is a very approachable lady and the Association for Homeschooling has always experienced our dealings with her as very professional.
